Free Fishing Friday

Come out to Thorpe Park and enjoy an evening of fishing at Lake Catherine! You won't need a fishing license and we'll have equipment that you can borrow, as well. Handouts and information about Iowa fish will also be available. Be sure to bring the whole family out! No preregistration is required, but the event may be canceled if the weather is inclement.

Critter Camp--Animal Tracks and Signs

Join us for this week-long daycamp, co-sponsored by NIACC! On Monday, we'll meet at Thorpe Park to learn about animal tracks and the different animal signs that we can see outdoors. We'll see examples of animals signs, make our own animal tracks, and dissect owl pellets. This daycamp is for kids going into grades 1st-5th and the cost for the whole week is $5.

Critter Camp--Birds

Join us for this week-long daycamp, co-sponsored by NIACC! On Tuesday, we'll meet at Pilot Knob State Park to learn about birds, including how to identify them, how they're able to fly, and how to attract them to your yard. And, of course, we'll go on a hike to look for birds! This daycamp is for kids going into grades 1st-5th and the cost for the whole week is $5.

Critter Camp--Insects

Join us for this week-long daycamp, co-sponsored by NIACC! On Wednesday, we'll meet at Thorpe Park to learn about insects of all kinds, from creepy crawlers to amazing flyers. We'll learn about all the amazing varieties of insects and what makes them unique. Of course, we'll also see what insects we can find by trying our hand at catching some! This daycamp is for kids going into grades 1st-5th and the cost for the whole week is $5.

Critter Camp--Pond LIfe

Preschool Story Time

Bring your preschooler to the new Hanson Nature Center for an animal story, a simple craft, and a snack! The program will be free, but preregistration is requested by simply contacting Naturalist Lisa Ralls to sign up. The theme of the Story Time has yet to be determined.

Family Geocaching

Bring the family and come learn about a fun outdoor activity--geocaching! You'll learn what geocaching is, why it's become so popular, and how you, too, can enjoy this modern form of  "treasure hunting!" (Be sure to bring along a smartphone.) This class is co-sponsored by NIACC and the cost will be $5/family.
