Welcome to the Winnebago County Conservation Board, one of 99 county conservation boards in Iowa. We are located in north-central Iowa's prairie pothole region. Our purpose is to provide outdoor recreational opportunities for everyone and to protect and conserve our natural resources.

This kids' overnight campout is co-sponsored by NIACC and will be held at the group camp at Pilot Knob State Park. We'll go hiking, cook over a fire, eat outside, learn how to put up a tent, and sleep under the stars! This campout is for kids going into grades 3rd-5th and the cost will be $9.
Registration is required by either calling NIACC at 641-422-4358 or signing up online at NIACC (Class ID #16106).

Summer Canoe Float

Come enjoy a leisurely paddle on Thorpe Park's Lake Catherine! We'll have canoes, paddles, and life jackets free for people to borrow any time between 2:00 and 4:00 PM. No preregistration is required, but the event will be postponed or canceled in case of inclement weather.

Preschool Story Time

Bring your preschooler to the new Hanson Nature Center for an animal story, a simple craft, and a snack! The program will be free, but preregistration is requested by simply contacting naturalist Lisa Ralls to sign up. The theme of the Story Time has yet to be determined.

Monarch Tagging

Come learn about the amazing Monarch migration, then help tag Monarch butterflies for research! There will be a short program at 6:30 PM, with the tagging beginning at 7:00 PM. People are welcome to come for the program, the tagging, or both. There will be some Monarchs for people to tag, but people can also bring their own to tag, or try their luck at catching some Monarch butterflies at the Center. The program and tagging will be free of charge and no preregistration is required.
